a Little Recent History
Following the passage of UIEGA in 2006, Bodog Poker licensed its U.S.-facing poker operations to the Morris Mohawk Gaming Group (MMGG). MMGG continued providing a service to U.S. players under the Bodog brand until 2011, when the site changed its name to Bovada Poker following the events of Black Friday.
Where sports, casino and poker combine for unforgetable entertainment. There are many different ways to play poker, but today’s most popular games are Texas Hold’em and Omaha. You can play both of these flop games at Bovada Poker, using No-Limit, Pot-Limit and Fixed-Limit betting structures. Bovada comes with quite the solid offer when it comes to its game variations. At this moment you can choose between the already mentioned Zone Poker, Sit & Go Tournaments and Jackpot Sit & Go’s. Besides from that you will find the usual poker games like Texas Hold’em, Omaha Hi and Omaha Hi/Lo. The Game Variations at Bovada Poker. The choice of cash games at Bovada Poker is limited to Texas Hold´em Poker Online, Omaha and Omaha Hi/Lo. Unusually, all three choices are offered in fast-fold format and, at the “regular” cash tables you can play at stakes from $0.02/$0.05 up to $30.00/$60.00. Get Started Playing Texas Hold’em If you’re not already a member at Bovada's online casino, the first thing to do before you can play Texas Hold’em (or any of the other poker games on the menu) is sign up for your free account.
From 2011 until September 2016 – when the site´s poker players were migrated to Ignition Poker – Bovada Poker was the largest provider of online poker in the U.S. Following the closure of its online poker platform, Bovada continued to provide an online casino and sportsbook – subsequently re-launching the poker platform in 2017 due to requests from its customers.
Bovada Poker Download
One of the reasons for the site´s previous success – and likely future success – is that it offers native Mac poker software. The Bovada Poker download for Mac is identical to the Bovada Poker download for Windows, and the appropriate installation file will start downloading when you click on the “Visit Bovada Poker” link above.
You should save the .exe or .pkg installation file to your download folder and follow the instructions provided by the Set-up Wizard. It is recommended you read the Licensing Agreement before accepting it, and after the Bovada Poker download has completed, the client should appear in a new window inviting you to “Join Now”.
Setting Up an Account
When you set up an account with Bovada, the same funds can be used for playing online poker, spinning reels in the casino or have a bet in the sportsbook. The registration process is straightforward and consist of one page asking for your name, date of birth, address, telephone number and email address. Please note, Bovada Poker now accepts players from Mexico and Brazil as well as the United States.
Make sure to use a unique password than might be used for any other online poker account and include the Bovada Poker bonus poker code “4007115” in the field were a referral code is asked for (you can also put “TexasHoldemPokerOnline.com” in the field what it is asked Where did you hear about us?, but it won´t get you anything extra other than our thanks!).
An email is sent to you immediately with your “Account Number” and a new window pops up inviting you to deposit funds into your account. You do not have to deposit immediately to access the Bovada software, but you will have to log out of your account if you want to preview the games in the online casino in play mode.
Bovada Deposit & Withdrawal Options
What Happened To Bovada Poker
The options for funding an account are limited to credit card, Bitcoin and P2P transfers (you will have to ask for the P2P facility because it is not advertised). The site charges a 5.9% fee for depositing via credit card (waived for your first deposit) and will cover the fees associated with a P2P first deposit in excess of $300.00. All Bitcoin transactions are free
You will have to validate your identity before being allowed to withdraw funds from your account – even if you have deposited by Bitcoin. Other than Bitcoin, the only other withdrawal option is check by courier. Check withdrawals are subject to a $100 fee, but Bovada will waive the fee once every ninety days. There is also a maximum withdrawal limit of $3,000 per check.
Bovada Poker Interface
One of the areas in which the site stands head and shoulders above its competition is its poker interface. Whether you are playing Bovada Poker on a Mac or a Windows operating system, the action is fast and smooth. There is a stack of settings that players can use to adjust their poker experience, a comprehensive player administration section and the facility to download “anonymous” hand histories.
Bovada Poker also offers players the opportunity to play cash games – including the site´s fast-fold “Zone Poker” – on a mobile. The mobile product is web-based (no apps to download) and is remarkably good. You can only play one cash game table at a time on your mobile, but you can also check on your bonus status, deposit funds into your account and request withdrawals.
The Choice of Games
The choice of cash games at Bovada Poker is limited to Texas Hold´em Poker Online, Omaha and Omaha Hi/Lo. Unusually, all three choices are offered in fast-fold format and, at the “regular” cash tables you can play at stakes from $0.02/$0.05 up to $30.00/$60.00. At all Bovada´s poker tables, players are anonymous as part of the site´s “recreational model”.
All the Sit & Go games and multitable tournaments are limited to Texas Hold´em Poker Online only. However, the tournament schedule is very good indeed. A nightly “Majors” series is complimented by the Sunday feature tournament which has a guaranteed prize pool of $100,000. In total, the site pays out more than $1.5 million each week.
Bovada Poker Review – Level of Competition
It is difficult to access the level of competition at Bovada because you never know who you are playing against. It does not necessarily follow that recreational players are short on skill just because they play recreationally and, whereas on some tables the level of competition could be very soft, you could be playing an identical table the next day and find it impossible to master.
The secret of success at Bovada is careful bankroll management. It might sound boring, but it is the most sensible way to approach playing at anonymous tables. The only difficulty with following careful bankroll management is that Bovada does not have the facility to automatically top-up your stack to the table maximum and you keep having to use the “Add Chips” button – at least until you start winning!

Bovada Poker Review 2021 – Cool Features
The coolest feature is the site´s customizable poker software. It´s not PokerStars standard, but compared to the rest of the options for online poker players in the U.S. it shines out. The speed of the action at the cash tables is fast and easy to follow and, following the introduction of a “Quick Seat” feature, navigating the software is even easier.
A further cool feature is the option to exchange the Player Points you collect for contributing to the rake or paying a tournament entry fee for tournament entry tickets, casino bonuses and sportsbook bonuses. The exchange rate is not marvelous, but at least the option exists, and it is surprising how quickly the Player Points add up when you get involved in a long session
Bovada Poker 2021 Review – The Bonus
The Bovada Poker bonus is available only to players who have never benefitted from a first deposit bonus before at the site. It consists of a 100% match on first deposits up to $500, and has a clearing structure that favors smaller depositors. Bovada awards three Player Points per $1.00 paid in fees to enter a Sit & Go game or multitable tournament, and points for contributing to the rake on a sliding scale:
Rake Paid | Points |
$0.01 – $0.04 | 0.05 |
$0.05 – $0.24 | 0.10 |
$0.25 – $0.49 | 0.25 |
$0.50 – $0.99 | 0.50 |
$1.00 – $3.00 | 1.00 |
The Bovada Poker bonus is released in increasing increments each time you reach a certain number of Player Points (see table below). The milestones remain the same whether you deposit $50 or $500, and you only have thirty days in which to clear as many milestones as you can. After that, any uncleared bonus will be forfeited.
Level | Poker Points | Bonus Issued | Total Bonus |
1 | 15 | $5 | $5 |
2 | 85 | $20 | $25 |
3 | 185 | $25 | $50 |
4 | 500 | $50 | $100 |
5 | 1,500 | $150 | $250 |
6 | 5,000 | $250 | $500 |
Should you fail to hit the final stage before the end of the 60 day period (or maximum you are entitled to), your account will be credited with a final bonus for any poker points you have earned since last having a bonus released at a rate of $1.00 for each five poker points.
Bovada Poker Review – Conclusion
Because of the site´s connection with Asia through the Pai Wong Luo Poker Network (formerly the Bodog Poker Network) there is plenty of action around-the-clock. The software is great, the anonymous tables provide a playing level field against more experienced players and – if you have never had a Bovada Poker bonus before – you can get up to $500 free poker money by creating an account with the site today.
